Wonders of winking?
I get this question a lot - should I use the free 'wink' feature on dating sites? Well, my quick and simple answer is no, especially if you are a guy.
After interviewing many women that use online dating sites in the past, women simply get too many winks to do anything with. And you know how women are - they rarely make the first move. So, if you are a guy sending a wink - it sends the signal that you don't really want to pay to contact her, or you are too lazy to write an email to her. Not good signs! If you are a woman, and you aren't a paid member, then its okay to wink usually. If you are a paid member, same thing applies - the guy will think you are too lazy to write an email and think you probably aren't that interested, so don't wink.
Come on guys and girls. Get writing emails instead. And get creative!

Winking seemed like such a great idea when it was introduced into the online dating world. But, women were soon inundated. So, guys are back to having to write emails to get women to respond.
I'd recommend checking out Evan Katz book on the subject of online personals writing (I Can't Believe I'm Buying This Book: A Commonsense Guide to Successful Internet) is the best guide I've found yet. In short, be specific about what who you are and what you're looking for. Generic, 'I like to go for walks on the beach,' won't work. You need to stand out from the crowd, get noticed, get a response.
