DatingDr Answers: Meet with no photo?
Welcome to our new section on Dating Dirt called 'DatingDr Answers'. DatingDr will answer internet dating questions from you, the readers of this dating blog. First up is a question from Mark in Seattle.
Mark: "So, I have been emailing this girl on match.com for about a week now. She sounds cool and we both like the same kind of music, but she doesn't have a photo on her profile, and seems to change the subject whenever I ask for a photo. Do you think this is strange? I'm not sure I want to meet someone online without seeing their photo first - seems a little too much like a blind date to me, and I have happy some crappy blind dates set up by my friends, believe me! What do you think I should do?"
DatingDr: "Well Mark, very interesting. I think this probably happens a lot on dating sites. In my opinion, there are usually three main reasons for women to not have a photo -
1: She is uncomfortable about showing her photo online for any joe shmoe to see.
2: She has had way too many creepy emails about her photo, so she took it down to avoid the weird emails.
3: She is not happy with the way she looks and probably isn't going to be great looking.
From what it sounds like, I would probably have to say number 3 is the case here, unfortunately for you. If she keeps avoiding it, she probably wants to let her personality shine through and wine you over that way, so probably isn't great looking. If she was number 1 or 2, then she would probably send you her photo privately. Hope that makes sense.
So, I guess its about how picky you are in terms of looks, and whether you want to risk meeting her and potentially having an ackward moment if she isn't your type. If you are really intrigued, I suggest meeting her for coffee, and come prepared with a way out excuse if she really isn't your type and it becomes an ackward situtation. Trust me, she will thank you for not hanging around and delaying her embarrassment, as long as you aren't too obviously lying. Hopefully this helps Mark, let me know how it goes".
